Cézanne + Une Visite au Louvre (1990)
Directed by Jean-Marie Straub, Danièle Huillet
101 minutes
A double feature of two cinematic meditations on Paul Cézanne by Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet. CÉZANNE (Conversation with Joachim Gasquet, 1990, 52 min, 35mm) is a tribute to the painter incorporating passages from Gasquet's book about the artist, scenes from Jean Renoir's Madame Bovary, Maurice Denis photographs of Cézanne, and material filmed at Mont Sainte-Victoire. UNE VISITE AU LOUVRE (2004, 49 min) is a companion work drawing inspiration from a chapter of Gasquet's Cézanne describing the author's museum visit with the painter. Part of the Straub-Huillet series 'The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters.'
