CIPRÌ & MARESCO PGM 1: CINEMA
Erudite and always irreverent cinephiles, Ciprì & Maresco have infused their work with their love for cinema, whether through homages, citations or profanations. Though hyperlocal (their filmmaking never ventured outside their native Palermo), their films have genealogically followed the human and cinematographic trajectories that lead from Sicily to America, and vice versa. They filmed Martin Scorsese recounting the urban articulation of Sicilian villages transplanted to Lower Manhattan and listened to Samuel Fuller chronicling the Allied invasion of Sicily in WWII. (American) Cinema is at the aesthetic center of their work. Their love for John Ford is plastically illustrated in their predilection for long shots, a recurring feature in the films of Ciprì & Maresco. This program gathers sketches from Cinico TV and short films that pay sacrilegious homage to the 7th Art.
