CIPRÌ & MARESCO PGM 3: CRIMINAL (DIS)ORGANIZATION

In the "Cinico TV" sketches and short films devoted to the Mafia and crime more generally, Ciprì & Maresco radically overturn the conventions of political and anti-Mafia cinema. Cosa Nostra does not appear as a mythical, mysterious, or invincible power, but as an ordinary and grotesque presence, immersed in the marginality of the bodies, landscapes, and characters that inhabit their Palermo. Mafia bosses, affiliates, and rituals are stripped of any aura of (anti-)heroism and returned to a dimension that is at once miserable and surreal, where violence coexists with emptiness, absurdity, and everyday degradation. Through silences, distorted dialogue, and pitch-black humor, Ciprì & Maresco dismantle the mythology surrounding the Mafia and reveal its banality as a form of power and oppression.
