James Broughton, prolific poet-filmmaker and member of Anthology's own Essential Cinema Selection Committee, was one of many Bay Area experimental filmmakers whose work was distributed by the Multi-Media Resource Center. Generally advertised in the "Erotic Fantasy" section of the distributor's catalogs, Broughton's films were recontextualized by their inclusion, their sensuality and spirituality understood as components of a holistic understanding of sexuality for the sex educator or therapist. In this special edition of Anthology's Broughton Essential Cinema program, three characteristic works of the filmmaker's late 60s-early 70s output are preceded by a very special entry in the National Sex Forum filmography, in which Broughton himself is bathed and massaged by erotic masseur Kenneth Ray Stubbs.
