NOTES FROM THE INTERZONE (2026)
Directed by Angela Christlieb
34 minutes
"NOTES FROM THE INTERZONE is based on diary fragments and anecdotes created since my first stay in New York in 1997 – a personal journey into the world of imagination, interwoven from dream journals, cinematic fragments, and real memories. The film begins in the present: New York, a city in a state of political upheaval. Everything seems familiar, yet nothing is normal anymore. From here, an associative journey opens inward – into an in-between world where reality, dream, and memory overlap into a fever dream of images, voices, and thoughts. A time loop leads back to 1997. In a first-person narrative, we encounter a woman living in a Russian house in East Brooklyn – surrounded by Latino gangs, salsa music, and a jealous Russian man. As she tries to write a screenplay, heat, noise, and unrest keep her awake. At night, she zaps through TV channels and becomes fixated on programs about paranormal phenomena. With each passing night, objects and furniture begin to take on a life of their own – the boundary between dream and reality dissolves." –Angela Christlieb
